Introduction to Population Regions

This is not an all-encompassing guide to population regions, but it provides a good starting point. For the full detail, see Populating.

What are Population Regions?

These are the heart and soul of populating your environments with your agents. They are made up of regions, spawn groups and a spawning strategy. These options allow for great control over the size and feeling of an area within your environment.

Regions

This defines the area of the population region and is made up of colliders.

Character Pools

This is a list of models to use for your agents, you can have as many as you like of these so each population region could in theory has it own to give it a unique feeling if you so wish.

Spawning Strategy

Defines the strategy used to populate a region, there is currently only one which does a random workplace, home selection process for agents. There are plans to add more in the future.

Next step

Continue to Populating for the full setup, or see Scene Setup for where regions fit into a working scene.

If you would rather see one working first, the Bespoke Agents example scene shows the alternative — hand-placed agents with the population region disabled. See Example Scenes.
